Roots and Legends

Paulownia comes from China, where it has been cultivated for over 3,000 years. In Japan, it is known as “Kiri”—a symbol of luck and longevity. Traditionally, the tree was planted at the birth of a daughter, and its wood was used to make a wedding chest.

Journey to Europe

In the 19th century, German scientist von Siebold brought paulownia seeds from Japan to the Netherlands. The tree was named after Anna Pavlovna, Queen of the Netherlands and daughter of Russian Emperor Paul I. Since then, paulownia has spread worldwide due to its decorative appeal and rapid growth.

Significance and Features

Paulownia wood is light, resistant to pests, and used for furniture, musical instruments, and crafts. The tree is also one of the leaders in absorbing CO₂, contributing to the planet's health.
